Who Are We
Prism is Coventry’s only group for young people who are:
- Lesbian
- Gay
- Bisexual
- Trans
- Queer
- Questioning
Our History
Prism was founded in September 2012 following the closure of GYGL Coventry, the LGBTQ youth project that had run in the city for almost twenty years. Since then our youth group has gone from strength to strength and continues to grow.
In 2019 & 2020 we were honoured to be awarded Silver in the Midlands Zone Reader Awards for the category “Best Midlands LGBT Charity/Group of Achievement”
What Do We Do
We hold weekly meetings at a discreet venue on Thursday evenings in a central Coventry location to provide a safe space for young LGBTQ+ people to socialise.
Generally the group gets together to socialise, play games and talk about anything which interests our young people. Occasionally we facilitate creative activities which allow members to express themselves.
We have also in the past arranged outreach events such as:
- Attending various Pride events – Birmingham Pride Parade, Coventry Pride Parade, and Warwickshire Pride
- Visiting theatre productions throughout the West Midlands including the RSC
- Visiting the Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum for their “Coming Out” exhibition of LGBTQ+ art and artists
- Workshops involving Risky Behaviours, Sexual Health and Legal Workplace Rights

Although we are able to provide one-to-one sessions with members, we do not offer counselling as such but can refer members to relevant services depending on their needs.
Interested In Joining
If you are a young person aged between 13-18 who is interested in coming along to one of our session’s and becoming a Prism member then please contact us for more information as well as the venue details. Please note, any person attending a Prism session is required to complete a membership form so we have a record of any relevant medical information as well as emergency contact details. If possible we ask for this to be completed before the session.
Interested In Volunteering
If you are aged over 21 and are interested in becoming a Prism Mentor then please contact us for more information as we are always on the lookout for enthusiastic and supportive volunteers.
